I think that the Big Boys at the NRA are in denial mode. Wayne LaPierre and his buddies at the top of that organizations leadership must be smoking something that affects their brains.

Investigators found a blue/white duffel bag containing  a NRA Certificate made out to Adam Lanza, along with eye/ear protection gear, paper targets, and ammunition.

My guess is that Ol’ Wayne doesn’t want to acknowledge that Adam Lanza may have been one of those ‘good guys’ with guns that he keeps talking about.

If Adam Lanza had 10 round magazines instead of the 30 round capacity units that he used, perhaps a few of those little kids would have been saved.

As a civilized society, I think that we are hurting ourselves by not addressing stiff gun control legislation (no matter what the NRA leadership thinks)Jack 2012 cropped.

California’s Proposition 8 was argued at the Supreme court earlier this week with much fanfare and national media attention.

The thing that I remember most about this issue, when it was on the ballot in the Golden State, is that the referendum was spearheaded and largely financed by the Mormon Church out of Salt Lake, Utah. It is difficult for me to accept that a bunch of old white men are attempting to dictate to the American people who should or should not be able to marry.Jack 2012 cropped

I don’t understand why the typical taxpayer is forced to subsidize tax breaks for the likes of NASCAR, corporate jet owners, and venture capital fund managers.

Do you realize that it takes a blue-collar worker, earning $50,000 per year, 2,000 years to earn as much as one of these fund managers takes home in one year. Yet, that same worker has to pay for that fund managers tax break.

GIVE ME A BREAK!!

I understand that Congress is incapable of legislating comprehensive tax reform. But, can’t they at least begin chipping away at the obvious tax inequities.Jack 2012 cropped

I think that Christopher Dorner is one of the ‘Good Guys with Guns’ that NRA chief exec. Wayne LaPierre is always referring to.

And, he wants to have people like him placed in our schools to protect our children.Older man musing

Keep coming back!!

As I watched the Senate Hearings on gun control last week, I was struck by the contrast in testimony of the primary witnesses.

First we had the statement of Gabrielle Giffords, a courageous woman who has seen, first hand, the ravages that assault-type weapons can bring upon its victims. Her testimony was simple and straightforward.

Then we had the speech of Wayne LaPierre. To me, he came across as a cowardly little man hiding behind strident rhetoric and uncompromising positions.

I can understand why weapons manufacturers, and radical right-wing groups support his leadership. But I don’t get the following from the rank and file of that once venerable organization.Older man musing

Keep coming back!!

The National Assault Weapons Association (NRA) has our Congress and many state legislatures completely hood-winked. They lobby and give financial support (via attacking all opposed to their views) to those who will support their jaded vision on the right to own killing machines.

I’m a supporter of the Second Amendment, but what about the rights of the little kids who had their bodies riddled with bullets designed to tear their insides out. Weren’t they and their families given the right to “Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness”?

Apparently, the NRA regards them as ‘Collateral Damage’ in pursuit of their own agenda.

I think that it is time for all of our Congressional delegations to stand up in support of Sen. Feinstein’s bill.Older man musing

Keep coming back!!

The National Assault-weapons Association (also known as the NRA) adamantly refuses to acknowledge that assault style weapons and ammunition are a part of the problem that our nation has regarding the high number of gun-shot deaths and wounding that we have today.

Every day we hear the leadership of that once venerable organization spewing out the same ramblings about why we should have no gun controls whatsoever. I say ‘BULL-CRAP’. If they want to own these high-powered killing machines, then they must register them in a federal database. And, as an acquaintance that I met at a meeting at one of our Senator’s office recommended, require that they carry liability insurance on each of their weapons. When they want to sell one of their toys to, as they keep saying, a neighbor, they will need to take the title to a federal office and complete the transfer.

An immediate background check can be made on the new owner, insurance verified, the weapon inspected and then handed over to the recipient. The funding for this can come from registration fees.

For the weapon owner this will be an easy process. It won’t be much different than selling a vehicle. And everyone will be happy.Older man musing

Speaker of the House, has almost no chance of bringing the GOP Caucus into agreement with regard to allowing the tax breaks for the highest income receivers to expire. This could cost him his leadership position.

However, there is a solution to  this problem. He needs to form a coalition of moderate Republicans and all Democrats to pass immediate stop-gap tax reform with, the agreement that the Dem’s will support him in his bid to retain his position as Speaker.

In this way he will be able to break the stranglehold that the extreme right-wing members of the House has on our government. The obstructionists that are financed by the likes of Karl Rove, the NRA, the Koch Bros., and the Americans for Tax Reform will then realize that it is necessary to work with all members of Congress, in order to get our nation’s economy moving at a faster rate of recovery.Older man musing

Keep coming back!!

The  Republicans in the House of Representatives lost several seats, mostly extreme right-wing, to the Democrats. The Democrats also gained seats in the Senate. Barack Obama won the presidency by popular majority and by electoral vote. 60+% of all Americans believe that folks with incomes over $250,000 should have their tax rates increased.

As Speaker of the House, John Boehner, is the elected leader of the GOP. NOT Grover Norquist and his shady financiers of  ’Americans for Tax Reform’. NOT the Koch Brothers, the sole owners of one of the largest privately held conglomerates in the world. NOT Karl Rove and his Big Bucks Buddies from the Beltway. NOT Rupert Murdock and his minions at News Corp., the controllers of the vast media giant which includes the Wall St. Journal, the Fox TV network, the National Geographic Channel, and a  number of our newspapers. Boehner is the leader of the Republicans.

I believe that it is incumbent upon Speaker Boehner to lead his caucus and his party to enact the will of the people at this important time for our Nation.Older man musing

Warren Buffett, one of the wealthiest, hard-working entrepreneurs in our nation, agrees with the vast majority of Americans that the wealthiest among us ought to be paying more in federal taxes. It bothers him that his effective tax rates are less than that of his secretary.

Grover Norquist, on the other hand, believes that the very high income gatherers are entitled to keep more of their booty than the rest of us. He seems to think that the richest are entitled to keep more of the money that they bring in.

I hear from the GOP leaders in Congress, that they must protect the small business owners that would be affected if the tax rates on those with incomes over $250,000 would be allowed to increase. Among those small business owners are a group of financiers whose incomes are in excess of 1 billion dollars each. WOW!

Do you realize how long it would take a family making $50,000 per year to earn what these guys make in one year? ….Twenty thousand years! Double WOW!

I think that Mr. Norquist and his Americans for Tax Reform need to be on the losing end of this argument.

OH! I wonder where Grover and his organization gets their funding from.

  Keep coming back!!
