I don’t understand why the typical taxpayer is forced to subsidize tax breaks for the likes of NASCAR, corporate jet owners, and venture capital fund managers.

Do you realize that it takes a blue-collar worker, earning $50,000 per year, 2,000 years to earn as much as one of these fund managers takes home in one year. Yet, that same worker has to pay for that fund managers tax break.

GIVE ME A BREAK!!

I understand that Congress is incapable of legislating comprehensive tax reform. But, can’t they at least begin chipping away at the obvious tax inequities.Jack 2012 cropped

Keep coming back!!

About a week ago, the NRA gave their response regarding the massacre of 20 little children and 6 adults at Sandy Hook School, in Newtown, Connecticut. Wayne LaPierre, the organizations leader, said that we should immediately place armed security guards at all schools.

Several years ago I remember landing at the International airport at Manila in the Philippine’s. As I deplaned I noticed that there were armed guards with automatic weapons everywhere that I looked. For me, it was an awfully uneasy feeling. I was so thankful that we do not have to live like that in the US.

Where will this idea of having armed guards end? Shopping malls, playgrounds, theatres, restaurants, bars, banks and beaches? I thought we formed this nation so that we could live free and without fear.

LaPierre went on to say, “The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun”. How will I be able to tell which is which? He neglected to tell us that some members of the NRA are ‘bad guys with guns’.

As a nation we do need to look at all of the reasons that we have more deaths by shooting than other countries. Nothing ought to be left off of the table, including assault style weapons, ammunition ment to tear a humans insides out, high-capacity clips, magazines and drums, complete registration of firearms, mental health, video games, the media, etc., etc.

I would like to see the full membership of the NRA be a part of the solution to this growing problem in our nation.

Speaker of the House, has almost no chance of bringing the GOP Caucus into agreement with regard to allowing the tax breaks for the highest income receivers to expire. This could cost him his leadership position.

However, there is a solution to  this problem. He needs to form a coalition of moderate Republicans and all Democrats to pass immediate stop-gap tax reform with, the agreement that the Dem’s will support him in his bid to retain his position as Speaker.

In this way he will be able to break the stranglehold that the extreme right-wing members of the House has on our government. The obstructionists that are financed by the likes of Karl Rove, the NRA, the Koch Bros., and the Americans for Tax Reform will then realize that it is necessary to work with all members of Congress, in order to get our nation’s economy moving at a faster rate of recovery.Older man musing

Keep coming back!!

The  Republicans in the House of Representatives lost several seats, mostly extreme right-wing, to the Democrats. The Democrats also gained seats in the Senate. Barack Obama won the presidency by popular majority and by electoral vote. 60+% of all Americans believe that folks with incomes over $250,000 should have their tax rates increased.

As Speaker of the House, John Boehner, is the elected leader of the GOP. NOT Grover Norquist and his shady financiers of  ’Americans for Tax Reform’. NOT the Koch Brothers, the sole owners of one of the largest privately held conglomerates in the world. NOT Karl Rove and his Big Bucks Buddies from the Beltway. NOT Rupert Murdock and his minions at News Corp., the controllers of the vast media giant which includes the Wall St. Journal, the Fox TV network, the National Geographic Channel, and a  number of our newspapers. Boehner is the leader of the Republicans.

I believe that it is incumbent upon Speaker Boehner to lead his caucus and his party to enact the will of the people at this important time for our Nation.Older man musing

Keep coming back!!

Warren Buffett, one of the wealthiest, hard-working entrepreneurs in our nation, agrees with the vast majority of Americans that the wealthiest among us ought to be paying more in federal taxes. It bothers him that his effective tax rates are less than that of his secretary.

Grover Norquist, on the other hand, believes that the very high income gatherers are entitled to keep more of their booty than the rest of us. He seems to think that the richest are entitled to keep more of the money that they bring in.

I hear from the GOP leaders in Congress, that they must protect the small business owners that would be affected if the tax rates on those with incomes over $250,000 would be allowed to increase. Among those small business owners are a group of financiers whose incomes are in excess of 1 billion dollars each. WOW!

Do you realize how long it would take a family making $50,000 per year to earn what these guys make in one year? ….Twenty thousand years! Double WOW!

I think that Mr. Norquist and his Americans for Tax Reform need to be on the losing end of this argument.

OH! I wonder where Grover and his organization gets their funding from.

  Keep coming back!!

Am I seeing the beginning of a trend? Is there a movement, other than that of a bowel, starting? Are the “No Tax Increase” pledgers getting in line to jump ship?

Grover Norquist and his band of sponsors to his shady ‘Americans for Tax Reform’ must be messing their pants, as the strangle hold they have had on our Congress appears to be disintegrating.

I think that it is important that the American people keep up the pressure on Congress and the Administration to pass legislation immediately to raise taxes on the very wealthy and develop a road map to reduce government spending, so that we can get our fiscal house in order.

Grover has had his way with members of Congress far too long. And, look at where it has gotten us. It is commonly known as the Fiscal Cliff.

The GOP members of congress have a real dilemma. They are elected to represent all of the people in their respective constituencies. 60 % of the folks in almost all of their districts agree that income taxes on the very wealthy ought to be raised.

Yet, almost all of them have signed the ‘No Tax Increase’ pledge to Grover Norquist and his very shady Americans for Tax Reform. This is an outfit that is very secretive about where they get their funding. You know the funding that they used to try to bring down candidates that would not Kow-Tow to the organizations precepts.

So, what is a Republican congressional member to do? Will that member follow the will of the folks that he/she was elected to represent? Or, will that congress person cave to Ol’ Grover’s demands and risk sliding our nation back into a recession that was caused by the previous Republican administration.

Keep coming back!!

The American people have spoken. Now is the time for our legislators to roll up their sleeves and solve the problems that face our nation. Senate GOP leader Mitch McConnell and his followers, especially those from the South, can no longer claim that their primary responsibility is to remove President Barack Obama from office.

A special ‘Shout Out’ goes to Karl Rove and his Big Bucks Buddies from the Beltway; the US Chamber of Commerce; the Koch Brothers and their Americans for Prosperity; and Grover Norquist’s Americans for Tax Reform; for pouring about $15,000,000 into the Montana economy. All to little avail! The voters of our fair state proved that the election could not be bought.

Keep coming back!!

In 1956 President Dwight D. Eisenhower warned of the possible takeover of our nation by the Military/Industrial/Congressional Complex. I believe that if the Romney & Ryan ticket wins the presidency, we will be well on our way toward just what Eisenhower warned the nation about.

The Ryan budget, which was enthusiastically endorsed by Romney, calls for a 20% increase in military spending. This in the face of the fact that we are finally extricating our forces out of the two wars started by the previous GOP Administration.

In order to do this Romney and Ryan are proposing to cut all other government spending. Such programs as disaster relief, children’s food programs, education, wellness health programs and medicare for senior citizens will be cut drastically due to the lack of funding.

Yet, our nations deficits will continue to grow. As has been said before, ” the math just doesn’t work ”.

Keep coming back!!

Denny Rehberg has a problem. Just before the election, Montana’s major newspapers endorse Senator Jon Tester. Just before the election, voters are reminded of the very poor judgement Denny used by allowing his young staff members to get into that speedboat. Just before  the election, Karl Rove and his Big Bucks Buddies from the Beltway pour another couple of million into the campaign to attack Jon Tester. (I don’t think Karl understands that this election cannot be bought.)

Just before the election, we are reminded of all of those junkets that Rehberg took during his 12 years as our representative in Congress. Of special interest is the ‘horse incident’ while Denny was visiting Kazakhstan on another fact-finding trip. It just shows his lack of good judgement.
